Russ graduated from Brigham Young University in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree emphasizing financial planning and counseling and began a career in community banking where he gained valuable experience in all aspects of community bank operations including the financing of commercial and residential real estate. He served in several senior management positions in various successful banks including as the founding Chief Financial Officer of Valley Community Bank in Duvall, Washington where he was instrumental in capitalizing the bank and profitably growing the multi-branch enterprise. Russ was ultimately appointed as the President and CEO of the bank. Following the successful negotiation and sale of the bank in 2001 he relocated to Utah and served as the manager of the Zions Bank Branch in Cedar City. In 2009 he left the banking industry to devote his time and efforts to his own business as a strategic consultant to small businesses and individuals.

Russ and his wife Melissa were married in 1976 and are the parents of four children and a glorious wealth of grandchildren. They made Cedar City their home in 2001.
